Dr.V.R.Balasubramaniam is a geophysicist, with a M.Sc (Tech) degree from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and Ph.D. from IIT Bombay, Mumbai. His area of specialisation is application of surface and borehole geophysical techniques based on Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Seismic Methods and Electrical Methods, for solving environmental and engineering problems in various civil, mining and hydel projects. He Joined NIRM as Scientist-I, in 1996, in Engineering Geophysics Dept (EGP) ever since its inception and he worked in more than 60 industry sponsored geophysical projects as lead and co-investigator, and as co-investigator in two S&T research projects including the international cooperation programme with Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), Norway in development and application of Step Frequency GPR in India. He has been instrumental in timely completion of the projects by way of aiding engineering design, planning, maintenance and troubleshooting of problems in mining, civil and hydroelectric projects. He is currently Scientist-V and Head of the Environmental and Exploration Geophysics Department (EEGD), and he is working on application of geophysical techniques for evaluation and impact assessment of environmental problems due to natural and manmade hazards like landslides, safety and stability of underground structures and seismic hazard. He is now leading a research work on seismic monitoring for assessment of seismic hazard in old mining areas. He has authored 5 peer-reviewed international publications (IEEE, EAGE and Elsevier) and 15 publications in national and international conferences. He currently holds membership of professional geoscientific bodies viz. AEG, SEG, ISRM, IEEE, IGU, ISEG, MGMI and SSA. He has immensely contributed to quality documentation of procedures and certification of NIRM services based on ISO standards
Mr. Amrith Renaldy hold BE (Mining) degree from VTU, Karnataka. He joined NIRM on October 2008. He worked as senior research fellow at Department of Mining Engineering, Anna University, Chennai, for a period of four years. He is having experience in various S&T and Sponsored Mining Projects involving in Strata Control Studies in both Coal and Metal Mines, GIS and real time kinematics GPS survey, 3D Digital Terrain Modeling, High resolution micro seismic monitoring, base line data generation for EIA and EMP, and Environmental pollution modeling. Currently Mr. Amrith is pursuing PhD from ISM-IIT Dhanbad.
Mrs Praveena Das Jennifer is a Civil engineer, BE (Civil Engg) degree in 2007 with a Master’s degree in 2015 from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum. She was with IIT, Chennai as Project Associate before joining NIRM as Scientist-I in 2008. She has extensively worked as co-investigator in 28 industry sponsored laboratory geotechnical investigation projects in Rock Fracture Mechanics (RFM) Laboratory. She has carried out several soil investigation studies for various mines. Since 2013, she has been involved in seismological data processing (seismic events like earthquakes- regional and distant and regional) and is currently carrying out research work on seismic hazard due to shallow seismic events in pursuit of Ph.D. degree at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore. She is currently Scientist-II, working in Environmental and Exploration Geophysics Department (EEGD) and is associated with S&T project related to seismic monitoring in old mining areas. She has one publication each in a national journal and an international conference as author and as co-author in 3 national and international conferences. She currently holds membership of International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM) and Institution of Engineers India (IEI).
Mr. Goverdhan K is Scientist-I of Environmental and Exploration Geophysics Department, National Institute of Rock Mechanics, BSK 2nd Stage, Bengaluru. Mr Goverdhan K did M.Sc, from Osmania University in 2006. I have registered Ph.D Programme at Department of Geophysics, University College of Science, Osmania University on the topic- “Seismotectonic Studies along Kakinada to Howrah Geo-transect” under the guidance of Dr. T. Seshunarayana, Regd. Chief Scientist, Engineering Geophysics Division, National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad in 2011. Mr. Goverdhan K, worked as a Project Assistant in NGRI, since 2006-2014. I have associated with Geophysical data acquisition, processing &Interpretation. I have published technical reports more than seventeen under CSIR-Network and Sponsored Projects. He has communicated four research papers to the National/International journals and attended more than eight Symposiums/Seminars/Conferences at various parts of the country. As a Project Assistant, actively participated in the field data acquisition using various Geophysical methods such as 2D seismic reflection, Gravity, Magnetic, Geophysical Logging and shallow seismic studies (MASW and Refraction) for coal/lignite exploration & Engineering projects. I selected ONGC merit scholarship during post graduation from 2004-2006 academic year
