TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR SCCL
NIRM conducted five days training course from 11th to 15th June 2018 on Norwegian Method of Tunnelling (NMT) for the executives of Singareni Collieries Company Limited, Govt. of Telangana at Kothagudem. The programme included class room lectures and practical training at an underground colliery of SCCL. The Singareni coal reserves stretch across 350 km of the Pranahita – Godavari Valley of Telangana with proven geological reserves aggregating to whopping 8791 million tons. SCCL is currently operating 18 opencast and 29 underground mines in 4 districts of Telangana and one of the world’s leading company in coal production. Presently for the characterization of rock mass (coal), SCCL is using Geomechanics Classification. SCCL is going to adopt NMT for the characterization of rock mass. By doing this, optimization of support system can be done with high progress rate without compromising the safety. This programme was coordinated by Dr. A.K. Naithani , HoD, Engineering Geology Department.
