Dr. D.S. Subrahmanyam
Scientist-V & Head
Dr. Subrahmanyam obtained his Post graduate degree in Geology from Andhra University, and Ph. D degree from Bangalore University. He worked for 7 years in Granite and Cement industries in various capacities prior to joining in NIRM in 1997. Presently he is Head of the Geotechnical Engineering Department. He is associated mainly with the geological and in-situ geotechnical studies of many important engineering projects in the Himalayan region.
He established an innovative technique for conducting stress measurements in fractured and porous rocks for which he got the Patent rights from Controller General, Patents & Designs (India). He also prepared the Stress Map of India that contributed to World Stress Map.
He has authored more than 50 papers, published in National and International journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. He had completed 95 Technical reports and 5 Research projects. He is also the Fellow and life member for various National and International societies and associations. He is Editor for international journals and also reviewer for various National and International Magazines. He visited Finland, Sweden, Bhutan and Nepal in connection with the Project related works and conferences.
He was Advisor and Interview Board Member for Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and also Officer in-charge for KR Puram unit of NIRM for a short period during 2016. He is holding the additional assignment of Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) of NIRM.
Mr. G. Shyam
Scientist-IV
Mr. Shyam graduated with his B.E. in Civil Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University in the year 2006. He joined NIRM in the year 2008. Till date he is associated with Geotechnical Engineering Department.
Dr. S. Vikram
Scientist-III
Dr. S Vikram hold a Doctorate degree (PhD) in Mining Engineering (2024), Master degree (MTech) in Geomatics (2013) from India Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad and Graduate degree (B.E.) in Mining Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University Belgaum (2008). Joined NIRM as Scientist in January 2015. Prior to joining this institute, he was with Hindustan Zinc Ltd as Engineer-Mines at Sindesar Khurd Mines, Dariba, Rajasthan and Goa Engineering College as Assistant Professor in Department of Mining Engineering, Ponda, Goa. Currently he is associated mainly with the geotechnical studies of engineering projects. He is involved in planning, implementation, and monitoring of geotechnical investigations of hydropower projects, underground storage plants, underground mines, irrigation projects in India and abroad. He has authored 15 papers to his credit, published in international journals and proceedings and 62 Technical reports. He is proficient in Satellite Image processing, GIS, Graphical and analyzing softwares like ERDAS, ARCGIS, IGIS, SURPAC, AUTOCAD and LISCAD. In-depth knowledge in LiDAR based studies, and Geodetic surveying. He has vast experience in optimizing ore production in mining and development underground. He has involved in deep borehole in-situ stress measurements, designing stopes, roof support, carried out stability analysis and planning using numerical modelling tool.
Mr. K.N. Shashidara
Technician-II
Mr. K.N. Shashidara obtained his National Trade Certificate in Fitter from Department of Employment and Training, Government of Karnataka. He worked for 3 years in Ace Designers Ltd and Ace Micromatic Machine Tools Pvt Ltd in various capacities prior to joining in NIRM in December, 2015. Presently he is Technician for Geotechnical Engineering Division
