Dr. H. S. Venkatesh
Scientist-V & Head of Department
Dr H.S.Venkatesh is a Mining Engineer from Osmania University and obtained his MTech from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Dr. H.S. Venkatesh obtained his doctorate in Mining Engineering from NITK, Mangalore University. Dr Venkatesh, joined National Institute of Rock Mechanics in the Rock Blasting & Excavation Engineering Department in the year 1990 as Scientist B and is currently Scientist F and Head, RB&EE Department. He is well versed with opencast and underground blasting operations and has acquired expertise in the area of controlled blasting. He has authored over 65 papers and about 150 research and industry sponsored projects as principal and co-investigator. Dr.Venkatesh is the recipient of the prestigious National Mineral Award, Govt. of India for the year 2004 in Mining Technology. Dr Venkatesh organized RARE 2016 an International Conference under the aegis of ISRM during November 2016. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Member International Society of Explosives Engineers and a member in several professional bodies like MEAI, ISRM, ITA, ISRMTT, MGMI, ISEG, Visfotak etc. He has visited Australia, Singapore and Bhutan. He has been in committees constituted by the State Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Telangana. He also represented NIRM as a member in the “Expert Body” as an expert in Blasting & Tunnelling constituted by MoEF&CC, Govt. of India to assess environmental degradation due to Hydroelectric power projects (existing and under construction) in the river basins of Alaknanda, Bhagirathi and their tributaries.
Mr. G Gopinath
Scientist-III
Mr.G.Gopinath is a Mining Engineer and he is pursuing his PhD from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, India. He is well versed with opencast and underground blasting operations and has acquired expertise in the area of controlled blasting. He is having about 20 years’ experience in open cast and construction industries. Prior to joining NIRM, Mr. Gopinath worked in various companies like KIOCL, HCC, L&T and L&T-Hochtief JV in various prestigious projects all over India. Currently he is working as Scientist II in Rock Blasting and Excavation Engineering Department. He has authored/coauthored about 70 technical reports and about 20 technical papers in national and international forums.He has delivered lectures to practicing Mining and Civil Engineers at various forums as an expert faculty in Rock Blasting. He is member of different professional bodies like ISRMTT, AusIMM, MEAI, VisfoTak, TAI etc. He has visited Australia and Bhutan.
Mr. G C Naveen
Scientist-III
Mr. G C Naveen is currently working as a Scientist in the Department of Rock Blasting and Excavation Engineering, National Institute of Rock Mechanics, India. He has master’s degree in Mining engineering and he has over 10 years of experience in rock blasting and excavation engineering. He has extensively worked in the areas of controlled blasting and Urban blasting projects. He has delivered lectures to practicing Mining and Civil Engineers at various forums as an expert faculty in Rock Blasting.
