The National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM) is conducting a training program on Rocscience Software for Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd., Bhutan, from 23rd to 27th June 2025 in Thimphu. The program brings together around 25 young civil engineers and engineering geologists to enhance their proficiency in a suite of advanced modeling tools developed by Rocscience, Canada.
As Bhutan prepares to embark on numerous hydroelectric projects in the coming years, this initiative is designed to build local capacity in rock engineering design. Leveraging its pioneering expertise in the field, NIRM aims to equip Bhutanese engineers and geologists with practical skills in software such as RS2, RS3, Dips, Unwedge, Slide2, and Slide3, through hands-on training led by NIRM scientists.
Participants are expected to integrate these cutting-edge tools with their on-ground experience, empowering them to tackle the complex challenges posed by Bhutan’s fragile Himalayan geology—particularly in the context of critical hydropower and infrastructure developments.
